Sand Bar at Eden Rock

Sand Bar, which is located directly on the sand of St. Jean Bay at the glamorous Eden Rock Hotel, is primarily a lunch venue.  However, on Thursday evenings, Sand Bar converts into “Thursdays on the Beach with Jean Georges”, where you can dine on a composite menu from Sand Bar and On the Rocks, Jean Georges’ more formal restaurant in the hotel.  We learned this because we had in fact made a reservation on our last night for On the Rocks and, upon our arrival to a dark, closed restaurant, were brusquely and peremptorily told that no, on Thursdays, only Sand Bar was open.

Aside from that pretty egregious logistical hiccup, there is little to find flaw with, particularly the cuisine.  Sand Bar serves some of the best salads around, such as a lobster salad with avocado, tomato and champagne dressing, as well as whole-wheat crust pizzas and local fish which are baked in the wood fired oven.  New Yorkers will be familiar with Jean Georges’ pizzas, including the always dependable truffle & fontina and prosciutto and three cheese.  One of the best dishes is an incredibly refreshing watermelon and goat cheese salad, coated in olive oil.  The delectable cuisine, stylish atmosphere and dramatic, beautiful views make this the island’s best restaurant for lunch.
