REVIEW

Le Riad Monceau

Le Riad Monceau is a luxury boutique hotel that is perfectly situated in one of the winding arteries just off the bustling Jemaa el-Fna square.  It serves what is probably the finest gourmet food in Marrakech.  Owned by the French artist Isabelle Aubry, the cuisine by chef Rachida Sahnoune (who also hosts worthwhile cooking workshops) bears the hallmarks of classic French technique as applied to traditional Moroccan recipes.  The chicken tajine with baked sugar tomatoes and sesame seeds was the best (of many) chicken tajines we sampled while in Morocco.  The meat was so tender that it would fall off the bone at the slightest provocation, and the tomatoes were ethereally sweet.

Dinner at the 18th century Hispano-Moorish riad is served around a beautiful swimming pool inlaid with traditional mosaic tiles under the shade of lush foliage and palm trees.  It is a deeply elegant and romantic setting with more character and more refinement than is customary at Marrakech’s finest riad restaurants.  All around, this is our most highly recommended restaurant in Marrakech.
