Yamm Restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Mira Hong Kong, which includes restaurants like Cuisine Cuisine at the Mira and Whisk. It a more casual, buffet-oriented restaurant serving international food in a double-height room with wavy walls, metallic cylindrical chandeliers and glassed-in wine bottle displays. It is a sleek, contemporary design, but on several occasions while dining at Yamm, I had the thought "this feels like a hotel restaurant" and then I realized: it is a hotel restaurant. The magic of many of Hong Kong's best restaurants, which are disproportionately located in luxury hotels, is that you forget where you are. Dining at Yamm can be frenetic between the families of tourists and hive of activity around the buffet.
But you are nevertheless best advised to avoid ordering à la carte, both because the servers speak poor English and are usually nowhere to be found, and because much of the food is not particularly good, so at least with a buffet you can keep trying till you find something you like. The cuisine is truly international: everything from American and Italian food to Japanese, Korean, Thai, Malaysian and Chinese food. We are usually wary of this eclecticism on the basis of the jack of all trades, master of none phenomenon, and our experience at Yamm did not disabuse us of our wariness. If you are a tourist, I wouldn't prioritize this restaurant, though do try Cuisine Cuisine at the Mira upstairs, but if you are a local and like buffets, then it's worth a visit.
