REVIEW

Chung's Cuisine - Causeway Bay

Chung’s Cuisine, part of the food forum of Times Square mall in Causeway Bay, is a serviceable, affordably-priced Cantonese restaurant that also serves some northern dishes.  It is one of three branches in Hong Kong that are part of the Tao Heung group.  The attractively design room contains a vaulted wood-paneled ceiling in the center of the room, as well as recessed booths along the walls and elevated booths bifurcating the room.  The busy room becomes quite boisterous at peak hours.  Unusually for Cantonese restaurants, there is an open kitchen permitting a bit of culinary voyeurism.

The cuisine can be somewhat uneven, but if you order properly, the dishes are very fine, and the restaurant’s dim sum is notable.  Deep-fried prawns and scallops with mushroom and vegetables are perfectly battered and crispy.  The BBQ Meat combination contains excellent suckling pig and pork and dreadful chicken and difficult to identify meat of another kind.
